β¦ Synopsis
Pbotodissociative production of ion pairs from Hz has been observed in the wavelength range 706-718 A at spectral resoWions of 0.4 and 0.22 A. From measured thresholds for production of H-from Hz molecules in each of the three lowest rotational states, the lower bound EAf.H) 5 0.754 * 0.002 eV is obtained, in excellent agreement with the theoretical electron affinity of 0.75421 eV. For formation of IT from DP, a threshold assigned to molecules in the rotational state J= 2 has been measured, from which the bound EA(D) ;a 0.757 + 0.005 eV is obtained. Negative ion yield curves are presented for hydrogen.

## Abstract Excitation functions for both positive and negative ions (X^+^ + Y^β^), formed by photodissociation in the vicinity of the onset of molecular ionization, for the jetβcooled interhalogen systems BrCl, ICl and IBr are reported. The overall shape of the excitation functions indicates that
Excitation functions for Br-and Br+ formation from jet-cooled Br,, in the region 120-I 14 nm (i.e. from threshold to above the ionisation limit of Br2). are reported. The mechanism for ion-pair formation is discussed in terms of homogeneous couphag between the 8pn Rydberg State and the D(O: ) ion-pa
