Abstract
The edible fruits of Garcinia huillensis Welw. ex. Oliv. growing wild in the Gutu and Rusape areas of Zimbabwe were collected, hydrodistilled and examined by GCβMS for essential oil composition. The main components from the fruit collected from the Rasa area, Gutu, were Ξ±βhumulene (23.0%), valencene (18.2%), Ξ²βcaryophyllene (12.6%), caryophyllene oxide (6.3%) and Ξ΄βselinene (5.0%). The Rusape oil contained Ξ²βcaryophyllene (53.9%), Ξ±βhumulene (10.1%) and valencene (4.0%) as the major components. Copyright Β© 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
