โฆ Synopsis
Measurements of the growth of leaves were made in two crops of field beans (Vicia faba L.). Measurements of air, crop and soil temperatures and solar and net radiation were made. The relative leaf growth rate increased with mean leaf temperature but was not directly related to solar radiation, The relative leaf growth rate was more closely related to screen maximum temperature than to screen mean temperature because the former described variations in mean leaf temperature better. The simple leaf growth model of Monteith and Elston (1971) successfully described the differences in initial development of leaf area in the two years but agreement on a daily basis was poor. Analysis of the rates of leaf production and subsequent rates of expansion are required for better models of leaf growth.

## Abstract The major changes in the composition of field beans (__Vicia faba__ L.) caused by micronising were as follows: the moisture content was reduced from 16.5 to 13.2%, the trypsin inhibitor activity reduced from 2.49 to 0.21 trypsin inhibitor units/mg dry matter and the available carbohydra
By acetylation the functional properties of Vicia faba protein isolate are changed (1 -3). The present paper concerns the influence of acetylation on the ultracentrifugal components and thermolability (differential scanning microcalorimetry (DSC)) of Vicia faba protein isolate.
