โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

Osteotomy of the rat femur performed by the laser was compared to osteotomty made by a handโ€saw cut. It was noted that, radiographically and histologically, there was a delay in healing in the laser group, but biomechanical testing failed to reveal any significant difference in bone strength.

Sixty-nine male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into three groups of 23 animals each and osteotomies were performed in group 1 with a power saw, in group 2 with the Erb:Yag laser, and in group 3 with the Ho1:YAG laser. The effect of bending stiffness of external fixators on the early healing of transverse tibial osteotomies was studied in a canine model to determine whether there is a particular range of fixation stiffness where healing is poor. Five unilateral fixators with different stiffnesses were developed an

## Abstract Using a feline model, the effects of stereotaxic brain lesions producing unilateral spasticity on bilateral fibular osteotomies were observed. Healing in spastic limbs occurred with more new bone formation than on the contralateral (control) side. Union appeared to be slightly faster in

## Abstract Mechanical strain during callus distraction is known to stimulate osteogenesis. It is unclear whether this stimulus could be used to enhance the healing of a normal fracture without lengthening the bone. This study tested the hypothesis that a slow temporary distraction and compression
