โœฆ Synopsis

Experiments have been carried out for heat transfer with liquid helium under conditions of forced circulation of the liquid through rectangular channels of width 1"0 cm and thicknesses 1"0, 0"6, and 0.3 mm. The channels had a fixed length of 50 cm. The circulation of liquid helium causes a very large increase in the maximum heat flux for nucleate boiling. Correlations are found for pressure drop and maximum heat fluxes, and maximum temperature differences appear to be significant parameters of the heat transfer and flow processes, and a general correlation of the laminar and turbulent flow data is found by plotting q/qmax against A T/ A Tmax. This correlation suggests differences in the heat transfer mechanisms for laminar and turbulent flow. Data are also given showing the process by which nucleate booing is recovered after the transition from film booing.

The paper presents experimental data on transient heat transfer in forced flow two-phase helium in a narrow vertical channel. Two principal mechanisms of heat transfer deterioration have been found. The first is due to increasing pressure reaching supercritical values. The second is the crisis when

The present study investigates the influence of partial restrictions on the axial heat transport and critical heat flux limits in subcooled superfluid helium (helium II) channels. Different size orifices are used to simulate partial plugging of superconducting magnets cooling channels by frozen oxyg
