Abstract

A method for quantitative determination of 7โ€oxocholesterol is described, and used for examining a number of wool waxes from different sources. The amount of free 7โ€oxocholesterol varies between 0ยท7 and 2ยท8%, and in addition 0ยท2โ€“3ยท9% occurs in the form of esters. Cholestenone is present only in traces. It is shown that at least part of the 7โ€oxocholesterol arises by autoxidation.
