✦ Synopsis
Vapour-deposited overgrowths of Na-6"-Al,O, that grow on p"-Al,O, single-crystal films at 1300-1350°C have been studied by X-ray diffraction and election microscopy. Overgrowth relationships are interpreted by matching the oxygen arrays of the deposited and background crystal lattice. Free energy calculations reveal the possible vapour-vapour reactions that lead to Na+"-Al,O, overgrowth formation.
