✦ Synopsis
Partly rotationally resolved ((2+1)) resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization spectra of the vibrational bands in the Dalby system (\left(\left[{ }^{2} \mathrm{II}{1 / 2}\right]{c} 6 s ; \mathrm{g} \leftarrow X\right)) of (\mathrm{I}{2}(\mathrm{~g})) have been recorded and analyzed at room temperature. The simulation technique used in spectral analyses is described and discussed. A statistical weight ratio of odd total nuclear spin: even total nuclear spin (=7.5) is clearly seen from the same relative intensities for rotational lines corresponding to odd (J^{\prime \prime}) :even (J^{\prime \prime}) transitions. Rotational constants ( (B{v^{\prime}}) and (D_{v^{\prime}}) ) and corresponding internuclear distances (\left(r_{v}\right.) ) for the Rydberg state ( (\left[{ }^{2} \mathrm{II}{1 / 2}\right]{6} 6 s ; 1 \mathrm{~g}) ) are obtained, as well as the characteristic rotational parameters (B_{\mathrm{c}}^{\prime}=0.04036 \pm 0.00001 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1}, \alpha_{\mathrm{e}}^{\prime}=(1.12 \pm 0.02) \times 10^{-4} \mathrm{~cm}^{-1}), and (r_{\mathrm{c}}^{\prime}=2.5656 \pm 0.0005 \AA). Vibrational analyses based on determination of band origins from the spectral simulations were performed to obtain (\omega_{\mathrm{c}}=241.8 \pm 0.5 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1}) and (\omega_{\mathrm{e}} x_{\mathrm{e}}=0.64 \pm 0.07 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1}), in good agreement with earlier results by Dalby et al. (Can. J. Phys. 55, 1033-1046, 1977). (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.

In the paper, we compare the results of our ab initio calculations for the ro-vibrational branching ratios resultmg from a (3 + 1) REMPI of H, via the B 'X: state with the experimental data of Pratt, Poliakoff. Rotational contours of the (2+ 1) REMPI spectra of iodine due to resonance excitation to the [ ZlIs,z]c5d; lg Rydberg state have been recorded at room temperature. Rotational parameters, &, were estimated from the band-head structure and used to derive the band origin by spectral simulations. T.= 59
It is shown that there are some advantages to determining ground state population distributions of H2 by 1 + 1 REMPI using the C 'II, (u' ~0) state as the intermediate state. The state distribution can be deduced more directly from the ion signal, in addition, a much improved sensitivity of < I .7x
Excitation spectra of the 1 'x:,' tX 'xc transition of Cl2 near 136 nm are presented. Jet-cooled molecules were excited with a tunable vacuum ultraviolet laser generated by four-wave difference-mixing in Kr, and the resultant photoions were mass discriminated in a time-of-flight spectrometer. Rotati
