✦ Synopsis
The reaction Cs(7P) +Hr-+CsH+H at threshold is studied in a crossed-beam experiment, with laser excitation of Cs atoms and laser-induced fluorescence detection of the CsH product. Variations of the total cross section with Hz kinetic energy are obtained for various rotational levels of CsH; they confirm theoretical thresholds and the absence of a substantial potential energy barrier on the entrance channel linked to Cs( 7P,,,). Analysis of fluorescence profiles yields information about the velocity and angular distribution of the products.
