✦ Synopsis
The Cs(7p) + Hz -f CsH + H reaction has been observed in a crossed-beam esperiment \vitb laser cscitrtrion of Cs and laser-induced fluorescence derection of CsH. Ab inirio alculations sug~st thsr rhe reacrion may proceed through n unique "collinear" collision, the system passing from the Cs(7p) + Hz surface into the ionic Cs+HX surface xvhich dissociates into 'X(Cs+H_) + Il. The mechanism explains the small cross section and the higher efficiency which is observed wirh (7~~12) escitation of Cs rather than with (7~~1~) excitation
