## Abstract In the presence of an excess of cysteine, a catalytic amount of a non‐iron transition‐metal ion (Co^2+^, Cu^2+^, Ni^2+^, Ti^4+^, and Mn^2+^) may also induce cleavage of qinghaosu (artemisinin; **1**) to give those end products previously reported for Fe^2+^‐mediated degradation.
