โฆ Synopsis
The assumptions of the infinite-order sudden (10s) approximation are examined by testing them on an accurately calculated scattering matrix. It was found that the accurate S matrix was not even roughly diagonal in the IOS representation. If, however, the elastic phase shift is removed from the scattering matrix, then the modified S matrix is approximately diagonal in the IOS representation.

The factorization expression for degeneracy averaged differential cross sections reported by Goldflam et al. and also by Khare is tested using accurate close coupling input for He-CO. The results illustrate the accuracy of factorization expressions in describing detailed scattering phenomena.
