Abstract

Cortical characteristics of new strains of Tetrahymena pyriformis of syngens 1 and 7, grown at 15Β°, 25Β° and 30Β°C, are compared. Although distinctions can be made in some cases, the magnitude of the difference is very small. This result suggests that natural selection is perceptive to cytogeometric details, per se, as well as sensitive to differences in the anatomy of structural molecules.

Intracellular ribonuclease from the ciliate Tetrahymena pyriform.is GL was purified 10-fold. After preheating for 20 minutes at 100Β°C of the ribonuclease preparation 80% of its activity was lost. ## Abstract Warming of exponentially growing __T. pyriformis__ to 34Β°C results in severe inhibition of nucleotide pool formation. The utilization of the pool for stable RNA synthesis is poorly affected at the high temperature. It thus appears that the synthesis and processing of ribosomal RNA precu

Sixteen bone blocks from two freshly amputated legs were used to study the effect of CO2 laser on cortical bone. They were divided into two groups. In Group I, the blocks were treated with CO2 laser using 1 mm spot (focused mode). In Group II, they were treated with CO2 laser using 3 mm spot (defocu
