✦ Synopsis

The reaction of O+ with HD has been studied as a function oftranslational energy and hydrogen temperature. While no change in the total cross section as a function of temperature is observed, the branching ratios for formation of OH+ and OD+ do depend upon the HD rotational temperature. The fraction of OH+ formed is up to 6% higher at 10s K than at 305 K. The measurements are in excellent agreement with theoretical calculations of Date0 and Clary. The results indicate that entrance channel effects control the product distribution.
