✦ Synopsis
Recent interest in Cu(I)-sulfur ligand clusters has revealed several basic structures: (1) the C&r2, Cus cube, Siz icosahedron core with 1 ,l-dicyanoethylene-2,2-dithiolate [l] , 1,2_dithiosquarate [2] , penicillamine [3], and &I-dimethylcysteamine [4] ; (2) the CL?&, Cue tetrahedron, Se, octahedron core with thiourea [S] and benzenethiolate [6] ; (3) the Cu$Ss, Cue tetrahedron, two S4 tetrahedra core with diethyldithiocarbamate [7]. Oxidation of these tetranuclear and octanuclear Cu(1) clusters to produce mixed valence Cu (I, II) clusters has not been reported. Herein, we report the preparation of several copper clusters [CusL, (I), its dissociation product, CusLs (II), and a chlorinated species [CuqL3] [CuCl,] CCL, (III), where L represents the bidentate tetraphenyldithioimidodiphosphinate [8] ligand, (-S-P(C6H& -N-P(C,H&-S---l , the single X-ray structure of
