Abstract

Synthesis of ^3^H‐musk xylene (MX) was carried out by two schemes. Nitration of ^3^H‐5‐tert‐butyl‐m‐xylene (3) decreased in the ^3^H‐incorporation ratio. Reduction of MX‐bromide (6) with NaB^3^H~4~ gave the highly labeled MX (8) and another bromide (7) gave 9 with tritium atom produced by equilibration between NaB^3^H~4~ and H~2~O or between NaBH~4~ and ^3^H~2~O.
