✦ Synopsis


The synthesis of the highly chemotactic leukotriene B3 (la) and of its 6-trans isomer l b by Witrig reaction of the chiral phosphonium salt 3 with the aldehyde 4 is described. A new synthetic route to 4 starting from D-arabinose is reported.
