β¦ Synopsis
Recently, Palmer and Russell (1) have reported that k-methylcinnoline afforded k-methylcinnol~ne 1,2-dioxide by the action of hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid, and the structure of the latter was elucidated by n.m.r., mass, W, IR spectrometry. We have also independently succeeded in the synthesis of cinnoline 1,2-dioxide.
When cinnoline (I) was heated with hydrogen peroxide in acetic acid at 65-70~ for 8 hours, cinnollne l-oxide (II), cinnollne 2-oxide (III) (2), cinnollne 1,2-dioxide (IF) and indazole were isolated in 25.92, 49.
