Enantioselective reduction of 2-allyl-2-carboethoxy-cyclopentanone (2) was accomplished in high enantiomeric excess (> 99%), using baker's yeast in the presence of CuO, to obtain the (+)-2-allyl-2carboethoxycyclopentanol derivative (6). This methodology also provides an entry to corresponding p-keto
Two kinds of novel nitroalkene reductases were isolated from baker's yeast. Reduction of a trisubstituted nitroalkene by these reductases afforded the corresponding nitroalkane with excellent enantioselectivity, moderate diastereoselectivity, and in good yield.
4B-Aminopodophyllotoxin congeners have been synthesized by the stereoselective biocatalytic reduction of the 4-azidopodophyllotoxins employing baker's yeast in excellent yields under mild conditions.
