✦ Synopsis

pregnenolone using pregnenolone as s t a r t i n g m a t e r i a l i e described. The procedure involved r e m o v a l of t h e C-21-methyl group of t h e s t e r o i d and t h e side-chain w a s reconstructed with 3H -CH3MgI i n two steps: a Grignard reaction followed by oxidation of t h e resulting alcohol. An o v e r a l l yield of 71% w a s achieved.

Pregnenolone-17a -3H was synthesized by reaction of1 7a-bromopregnenolone with tritiated acetic acid (CH3C02 3H) and zinc metal dust. The distribution of the label in the product was studied: about 98 % was at the 17-position and the remainder was randomly distributed on the steroids nucleus. It was

## Abstract The synthesis of [20,21‐^13^C~2~]‐pregnenolone (7) from androst‐5‐en‐3β‐ol‐17‐one (1) is described. Labelled carbons were introduced by two procedures, namely, condensation of 1 with K^13^CN and Grignard reaction of nitrile derivative 5 with [^13^C]‐methylmagnesium iodide. Location of l

## Abstract The preparation of 21‐diazoprogesterone‐6,7‐^3^H~2~ is described. Progesterone was dehydrogenated with chloranil to give Δ^6^‐dehydroprogesterone. Degradation of the pregnane side‐chain with sodium hypobromite gave the corresponding carboxylic acid. Catalytic reduction with carrier‐free

The readily accessible pregna-5,16-dien-3/l-ol-20-one ( I ) was transformed into 3/l-acetoxy-pregna-5,I7-dien-20-isopropoxy-16one ( 9). This compound was labelled by base-catalyzed isotopic exchange and then reconverted into labelled pregna-5,16-dien-3/l-01-20-one (13). Hydrogenation of this last on
