โฆ Synopsis
The new ternary compound Ba 2 CdTe 3 has been prepared by the reaction of a stoichiometric mixture of elements at 7003C. Its structure was determined via the Rietveld re5nement method using powder X-ray di4raction with R p /R wp (%) โซุโฌ 6.54/8.67. Ba 2 CdTe 3 crystallizes in space group Pnma (No. 62) of the orthorhombic system with Z โซุโฌ 4 and a โซุโฌ 9.8198(2) A > , b โซุโฌ 4.7436(1) A > , c โซุโฌ 19.0638(5) A > . It is isotypic to Ba 2 MnS 3 and K 2 AgI 3 . The structure consists of one-dimensional chains of 1 R [CdTe 2/2 Te 2 ] 4ุ separated by Ba 2ุ cations. The chain is made of corner-sharing CdTe 4 tetrahedra. Each Ba atom is coordinated to seven tellurium atoms to form a trigonal prism with one rectangular face capped by a Te atom.
