โฆ Synopsis
Two ternary nitrides, Sr 2 NbN 3 and BaThN 2 , have been synthesized by heating under flowing N 2 at 900ยฐC the appropriate molar mixtures of Sr 2 N and NbN, and Ba 2 N and Th 3 N 4 , respectively. The structure of Sr 2 NbN 3 was refined by the Rietveld method from X-ray powder diffraction data. It crystallizes isotypically with Ba 2 TaN 3 and Ba 2 ZnO 3 [space group C2/c (No. 15); a โซุโฌ 5.9864(2) A s ; b โซุโฌ 11.2271(3) A s ; c โซุโฌ 12.5465(1) A s ; โซุโฌ 92.587(2)ยฐ, and Z โซุโฌ 8]. Based on its powder X-ray diffraction pattern BaThN 2 is believed to be isostructural with BaCeN 2 and RbScO 2 [space group P6 3 /mmc (No. 194); a โซุโฌ 3.7523(6) A s ; c โซุโฌ 12.858(1) A s , and Z โซุโฌ 2]. Magnetic susceptibility data are consistent with the structural results.
