Abstract
Introduction of fluorine‐18 into various positions of long‐chain fatty acids is described. The potential heart and liver radiopharmaceuticals 16‐^18^F‐hexadecanoic acid, 17‐^18^F‐heptadecanoic acid, 2‐^18^F‐, and (9,10)‐^18^F‐stearic acid have been prepared by nucleophilic F‐for‐Br exchange in the melt of the corresponding bromofatty acid methylesters in acetamide, followed by alkaline or acid hydrolysis. In the case of 17‐^18^F‐hepta‐decanoic acid saturation yields of about 30% have been obtained at an optimum reaction temperature of 150 °C and about 1 mg of KF‐carrier.

First syntheses of a deuterium-labeled very long C34-containing polyunsaturated fatty acid, 34:5n5, and three other unlabeled very long chain C30-32 containing polyunsaturated fatty acids are reported. These syntheses were achieved by coupling chemically modified C22-and C20-containing polyunsaturat
A method for the synthesis of long chain fatty acids substituted at the to and to-1 positions has been developed. The key step is the isomerization of the triple bond of an alkyn-l-ol from an internal position in the chain to the free terminus with a new, convenient reagent, sodium aminopropylamide
Very long chain fatty acids are isolated from many different natural sources. However their unsaturated and particularly their diunsaturated derivatives with a k n,"+4 pattern are almost exclusively encountered in marine organisms, until we fimnd some derivatives in the botanical family of the Annon
