## Abstract Sodium cyanide‐ ^13^C has been prepared in 65–70% overall yield from carbon‐^13^C monoxide in a three‐step synthesis proceeding through isopropyl formate‐ ^13^C and formamide‐ ^13^C as intermediates. Several. methods for the dehydration of formamide have been investigated.

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Hydrogenation of carbon‐^13^C dioxide over ruthenium‐on‐alumina catalyst at 300–400°C produced methane‐^13^C, which was passed with excess ammonia over platinum at 1000°C to give, after absorption of the product in sodium hydroxide solution, sodium cyanide‐^13^C in 90% overall yield. Methane‐^13^C‐d~4~ and methane‐d~4~ were prepared by reduction of carbon‐^13^C monoxide and carbon monoxide, respectively, with deuterium.
