Abstract
The kinetic isotope effects in the reaction of methane (CH~4~) with Cl atoms are studied in a relative rate experiment at 298 ยฑ 2 K and 1013 ยฑ 10 mbar. The reaction rates of ^13^CH~4~, ^12^CH~3~D, ^12^CH~2~D~2~, ^12^CHD~3~, and ^12^CD~4~ with Cl radicals are measured relative to ^12^CH~4~ in a smog chamber using long path FTIR detection. The experimental data are analyzed with a nonlinear least squares spectral fitting method using measured highโresolution spectra as well as cross sections from the HITRAN database. The relative reaction rates of ^12^CH~4~, ^13^CH~4~, ^12^CH~3~D, ^12^CH~2~D~2~, ^12^CHD~3~, and ^12^CD~4~ with Cl are determined as k/k = 1.06 ยฑ 0.01, k/k = 1.47 ยฑ 0.03, k/k = 2.45 ยฑ 0.05, k/k = 4.7 ยฑ 0.1, k/k = 14.7 ยฑ 0.3. ยฉ 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The kinetics of the reactions CH,O + CI + H,CO + HCI ( 1 ) and CH,O + ClO -+ H,CO + HOCl ( 2 ) have been studied using the discharge-flow techniques CH,O was monitored by laser-induced fluorescence, whereas mass spectrometry was used for the detection or titration of other species. Rate constants for H atom attack on GeH 4 and GeD 4 have been measured in pulsed photolysis experiments in which H atoms were produced by the mercury-sensitized photolysis of H 2 and monitored by Lyman-โฃ absorption. The values obtained for GeD 4 in the temperature range 293 -550 K may be represented
## Abstract Isotope effects on the chemical shift (IECS) of ^19^F bonded through two or three bonds to the isotopes ^35^Cl and ^37^Cl are reported for a wide range of twoโcarbon chlorofluorocarbons (and, for a few cases, with the isotopes ^79^Br and ^81^Br, for twoโcarbon bromofluorocarbons). These
The kinetics and mechanism of the gas-phase reaction of CI atoms with CH,CO have been studied with a fTIR spectrometer/smog chamber apparatus. Using relative rate methods the rate of reaction of CI atoms with ketene was found to be independent of total pressure over the range 1-700 torr of air dilue
