Abstract
Dimethylformamide has been found to give solid complexes with both d,l and meso 1,2‐dianilino‐1, 2‐diphenylethanes (I), but only with the meso forms of 1,2‐di‐o‐ and 1,2‐di‐p‐toluidino‐1,2‐diphenylethanes (resp. II and III). These complexes are particularly suitable for the separation of diastereomeric mixtures of I and of II, respectively.
IR. spectra of the dimethylformamide complexes of I show evidence for hydrogen bonding in the solid state, but not in CCl~4~, solution.
