Counselor educators need to explore methods for enhancing students' career counselfng knowledge and competencies. Suggestions are offered for conducting an advanced career counseUng practlcum as one such opportunity.

Many counseling students have negative perceptions of career counseling (Dom, 1989;Spokane, 1991;Zunker, 1994) and less interest in providing career counseling than other types of counseling (Fitzgerald & Osipow, 1986;Pinkney & Jacobs, 1985). Career counseling is often seen as addressing only career choice (Haverkamp & Moore, 1993). Students may be unaware of relationships between career and other life issues. Haverkamp and Moore have suggested that the career-personal dichotomy is not as sharply drawn when career counselors work with adults compared with younger individuals. Yet many counselors do not have the knowledge and skills to offer effective career services (Dorn, 1989;Haverkamp & Moore, 1993). The counseling profession needs methods to enhance students' knowledge of, attitudes toward, and competencies in career services (Dorn, 1989). Other than the suggestions of Fink, Allen, and Barak (1986) for supervising career assessment interns, little has been published about such methods. There are few recommendations for developing career practica (Dorn, 1989;Spokane, 1991). This article, therefore, offers suggestions that career counselors may use for conducting an advanced career practicum.
