✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Heterotopic heart transplantation in rats has become a substantial tool for numerous investigations. This report describes a surgical technique of infrarenal heterotopic heart transplantation with a prodigious surgical success rate which was developed over many years of practice. Difficulties arising from anatomic variations are depicted and alternative approaches are discussed. Β© 1994 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.

## Abstract In a new simplified model, heterotopic heart transplants in rats function normally with only an aortoaortic anastomosis when one of the 5 lobes of the lungs is attached to the transplant. If an attempt is made to remove the remaining lobe of the lung, the heart dilates, fibrillates, and

## Abstract The functioning and survival of orthotopic liver allotransplants in toto were compared with heterotopic partial and whole allotransplants in inbred rats. In contrast to the rapid and aggressive rejection of the heterotopic allografts, the orthotopic whole‐liver allografts survived for p
