✦ Synopsis
The present study deals with the molecular weights of oligomers of alkyl a-eyanoacrylates, produced by the reaction of alkyl cyanoacetates with formaldehyde in the presence of basic catalyst. The formation of oligomers cannot be described as a step-wise polycondensation or anionic polymerization of ct-cyanoacrylate monomers. A probable reaction mechanism is proposed, including catalytic initiation with simultaneous propagation and depropagation of the oligomer chain.
