✦ Synopsis

The kinetics and mechanism of the oxidation of cupric sulphide mixed with ignited alumina have been studied in a fluidised bed. Incorporation of alumina has been found necessary to maintain uniform and continued fluidisation.

The product distribution as wel1 as the mechanism of oxidation in the presence of alumina in a fluidised bed is completely different from that in a fixed bed of pure copper sulphide (reported in Part 1). The reaction is no longer autocatalytic and copper sulphate, instead of cuprous oxide (formed in the fixed bed), was the main solid product.

Both of the following two rate-expressions represent the kinetics of oxidation quite satisfactorily:

## Abstract The catalytic oxidation of phenol with hydrogen peroxide using a synthetic copper(II)–Schiff base complex as catalyst has been investigated in phosphate buffer at pH 7 and 25 °C. In order to further investigate the reaction pathway, the catalytic oxidation of hydroquinone, __p__‐benzoqu
