โฆ Synopsis
Changes which occurred during exposure of a 200 penetration straight reduced bitumen to climatic conditions, to illumination under a light source, and to a soil cover in a greenhouse were studied. The rheological properties of the bitumen were altered more by illumination than by either of the other treatments. Acid-, alkali-, water-, and dioxansoluble products of weathering treatments were brown, fluorescent, low-molecular-weight compounds. The equivalent weight values of the water-soluble acidic components were compared with the results from gel filtration, paper electrophoresis, and mass spectrometry studies.
