โœฆ Synopsis

A novel steroidal glycoside, pachastrelloside A, has been isolated from a marine sponge and its structure was elucidated as 2a,38-dihydroxy-48-~(8-D-galactopyranosyl)-7a-~(4-O-acetyl-0-Dxylopyranosyl)ergosta-5,24(28)-diene.

This glycoside inhibits cell division of fertilized starfish eggs but does not affect nuclear divisions to form multinucleated, unicellular embryos.

Many new substances possessing potent biological activities have recently been isolated from marine sponges."

Mass-directed isolation of the CH 2 Cl 2 /CH 3 OH extract from a marine sponge of the genus Pseudoceratina resulted in the purification of a new antimalarial bromotyrosine alkaloid, psammaplysin H (1), along with the previously isolated analogs psammaplysins G (2) and F (3). The structure of 1 was e
