✦ Synopsis

Both neutral and acidic potymers have been isolated from the lipopolysaccharide extract of the reference strain (C.D.C. 4523-60) for Serrat~a rnar~es~e~ serogroup 015. By means of n.m.r. spectroscopy, methylation analysis, and studies of degradation products, the acidic polysa~haride was shown to have a branched pentasaccharide replating-unit with the following structure.

In continuation of our studies of the surface polysaccharides produced by reference strains of Serratia marcescens, we have isolated the lipopolysaccharide of the 015 strain C.D.C. 4523-60 (yield, 18% of the cell walls). The neutral monosaccharide composition (expressed as percentages of the total p

The structure of the acidic polysaccharide from Serratia marcescens serogroup O1 has been investigated. NMR spectroscopy together with sugar and methylation analysis have been used as well as a uronic acid degradation. The polysaccharide consists of pentasaccharide repeating units having the followi

In addition to a neutral glycan, lipopolysaccharide extracts from the reference strain for Serratia marcescens serogroup O22 contain an acidic polymer which probably defines the serogroup and is of microcapsular origin. The polymer is doubly branched with a heptasaccharide repeating unit and a galac
