✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Design of a CPW‐fed monopole antenna for multinetwork application is presented. The radiation mechanism of such an antenna has been investigated, based on a moment‐method numerical analysis and experimental measurement. The antenna with a pentagonal patch and an inverted U‐shaped strip is fed by a CPW structure and can excite multiresonance modes, which therefore provide dual continuous frequency bands, to cover the GPS L1 band, 3.5/5.5 GHz WiMAX bands, and 5.2/5.8 GHz WLAN bands. The effects of the pentagonal patch with different added loads are analyzed and the prototype of optimized design has been constructed and measured. The measured results explore good radiation characteristics including monopole‐like patterns, good impedance matching, and high‐peak antenna gains for operating over the two frequency ranges. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
