Abstract
This study proposed a coplanar‐waveguide‐fed square aperture circularly polarized (CP) antenna for the global positioning system and the International Maritime Satellite applications. The CP radiation is achieved by loading the aperture with a T‐shaped and a spur‐like strip. With the dimensions of the T‐shaped strip fixed, the CP radiation can be tuned to the desired band in a certain frequency range by adjusting the spur‐like strip. The measured 3‐dB axial‐ratio band is around 1.59 GHz with a bandwidth of 11.1% and a gain of about 3 dBic. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
