An efficient stereoselective total synthesis of (À)-pyrenophorol 1 is described. The key steps involved in this synthesis are hydrolytic kinetic resolution (HKR), MacMillan a-hydroxylation, Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons (HWE) reaction, and Mitsunobu cyclization.
