โฆ Synopsis
Abstract
A component of the egg string jelly of Loligo pealei inhibits ciliary activity in ciliated cells, thereby immobilizing a variety of swimming ciliated organisms. This report establishes the nidamental gland as a source of both the egg jelly sheath and the ciliary immobilizing factor. Methods are described for preparing crude and purified fractions of the immobilizing factor from the nidamental gland.
