✦ Synopsis
Three types o f ethyl a c r y l a t e (EA) and methyl methacrylate m A ) p o l y m e r s and b o t h homopolymers were synthesized by batch emulsion p o l y m e r i z a t i o n .
The q u a n t i f i c a t i o n o f t h e i n f l u e n c e o f t h e low-molecular-weight compounds, o r i g i n a t i n g a l s o from t h e presence o f e m u l s i f i e r s , on molecular weight d e t e r m i n a t i o n was t h e main purpose o f t h i s work.
Therefore molecular weights and molecular weight d i s t r i b u t i o n were determined f o r samples as synthesized (uncleaned samples) and f o r samples f r e e d o f low-molecular-weight compounds (cleaned samples) . I t was found t h a t data on molecular weight averages and molecular weight d i s t r i b u t i o n o f cleaned samples do n o t p r o v i d e s u f f i c i e n t i n f o r m a t i o n on t h e a p p l i c a b i l i t y o f t h e emulsions concerning mol ecul a r wei gh t s .
I n t h i s work t h e nonhomogeneity due t o copolymer composition was negl ec ted.
With i n c r e a s i n g t h e p r o p o r t i o n o f t h e more r e a c t i v e monomer i n monomer composition t h e molecular weight averages a r e increasing.
