The combined use of the 2'-tetrahydropyran-4-yl(Thp) group and 5 '-9-phenylxanthen-9-yl(Pix) group or (I-methoxy)phenyl xanthen-9-yl(Mox) group gave satisfactory results in the solid phase synthesis of medium sized RNA fragments.

Abstract
The synthesis of the tridecaribonucleotide AAGAAGAAGAAGA on a polystyrene solid support via a phosphotriester approach is described. The assemblage of the oligomer was performed by four repeated coupling reactions of the partially protected trimer AAGp(3β²) with an immobilized dimer in the presence of the activating agent (2,4,6βtriisopropylbenzenesulfonyl)β3βnitroβ1,2,4βtriazole. Purification of the RNA fragment was easily achieved by Sephadex G50 column chromatography.

Two multi-detachable resin supports, each containing orthogonally removable benzyl and photolabile esters were prepared and applied to the synthesis of Leu-enkephalin and angiotensin. These resins, called Pop and Pon, could be cleaved by acid to give the free peptide, by nucleophiles to give protect
