β¦ Synopsis
The EEGs were recorded on a Nihon Kohden machine with fourteen channels and five different montages, using the 10-20 system of electrode placement. Recordings were done for 15 to 20 minutes in both waking, drowsiness, and occasionally stage 2 sleep. Each cortical-stimulation session included between 50 and 200 stimuli of 100-psec duration and up to 750-V intensity delivered using either bipolar 127 or referential [I) montages.
Nine of ten EEGs recorded before scalp stimulation were normal. One showed intermittent left-sided slowing greater temporally with occasional sharp components. None of these recordings showed any change after cortical stimulation. The abnormalities found in the tenth case were also present after cortical stimulation without change. In particular, there was no focal slowing or epileptiform activity produced as a result of stimulation. These findings g v e no evidence for shortterm epileptogenic effects of cortical stimulation.
