High-resolution laser techniques are shown to spectra!ly resolve europium substituted calcium ion binding sites of the protein thermoysin. Fluorescence line narrowing techniques are shown to reduce the linewidths by 30% for non-resonant transitions indicating accidental degeneracies limit the spectral resolution attainable.
