โœฆ Synopsis

The laser-induced fluorescence excitation spectrum near (281 \mathrm{~nm}) of 1,4-benzodioxan has been studied in a supersonic jet, and dispersed single-vibronic-level fluorescence spectra have been obtained following excitation into 18 different (S_{1}) levels. Fundamentals have been determined for 14 vibrational modes in both the (S_{0}) and (S_{1}) electronic states. As might be expected for a molecule of only (C_{2}) symmetry (the partially saturated six-membered ring has a twisted conformation). Duschinsky mixing has been observed for five of these modes, the (S_{1}) normal coordinate being a mixture of two or more (S_{0}) coordinates. The fluorescence excitation spectrum is complicated by at least five well-documented instances of Fermi resonance. 1994 Academic Press. Inc.
