✦ Synopsis

abT-cell development is restricted to the thymus. Interactions between developing lymphocytes and the thymic stroma, together with bone-marrow-derived monocytes and dendritic cells, are critical for proper development of the T-cell lineage. The developmental sequence through which T-cell progenitors pass on their way to maturity is well established, and can be followed by the sequential acquisition and/or removal of cell surface molecules. Using the combination of modern genetic manipulations, such as transgenesis, gene ablation (knockouts) and targeted mutagenesis (knock-ins), with the ever-improving conditional and inducible manipulation of gene expression, we are beginning to gain an understanding of how intercellular interactions can be relayed via intracellular signalling cascades to bring about nuclear re-organisation and the differentiated mature CD4 ΓΎ and CD8 ΓΎ subpopulations.

Two major lineage decisions face immature T cells as they develop in the thymus. At an early stage in their development, they must first commit to either the gamma delta or alpha beta lineages. If they opt for the alpha beta lineage, then at a later stage they must also choose between a CD4+ or CD8+

The activities of conserved signal transduction pathways are central to the development of Drosophila wings, legs, and eyes. Yet, all these structures have characteristic morphologies, suggesting that additional factors provide organspecific information. One excellent candidate for such a function i

Members of the Wnt family of secreted glycoproteins act as short-range signaling molecules in vertebrate embryogenesis. Previous work has shown that Wnt-4 is required for kidney development. Mice lacking functional Wnt-4 fail to form pretubular cell aggregates. Wnt-4 acts as an autoinducer of the me

## Abstract The pathways of transduction of oxidative stress signals have been studied using the Jurkat T cell model. The oxidative stress was induced by exposure of the cells to 100 ΞΌM H~2~O~2~. DNA damage was detected within 15 min after commencement of treatment. DNA damage repair occurred withi
