High-resolution resonant photoemission (PE) studies of a-like metallic Ce systems reveal much less a-like character at the surface than in the bulk. For strongly hybridized Ce compounds like CeRh> the bulk 4f-PE spectra and, in particular, the Bremsstrahlung isochromate spectroscopy (BIS) spectra ar
