✦ Synopsis


The broadening of (\mathrm{H}{2} \mathrm{~S}) transitions in the (\nu{2}) band was measured with (\mathrm{H}{2} \mathrm{~S}), air, and helium as perturbers using a pulsed tunable diode laser spectrometer. Up to 20 lines (for self-broadening) with (J^{\prime \prime} \leqslant 8) and (K{a}^{\prime \prime} \leqslant 5) have been studied at room temperature. The self- and air-broadening coefficients show a weak decrease with increasing (J^{\prime \prime}\left(0.121 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1} / \mathrm{atm} \leqslant \gamma_{\text {self }} \leqslant 0.186 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1} / \mathrm{atm}\right.) and (0.072 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1} / \mathrm{atm} \leqslant \gamma_{\text {air }} \leqslant 0.116 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1} / \mathrm{atm}), respectively). Helium broadening was measured for the first time, showing a strong (J^{\prime \prime}) dependence of (\gamma\left(0.042 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1} / \mathrm{atm} \leqslant \gamma_{\mathrm{Hc}} \leqslant 0.099 \mathrm{~cm}^{-1} /\right.)
