✦ Synopsis

The ion pair formed from aqueous rhodium trichloride and Aliquat 336 catalyzes the selective hydrogenation of olefinic C-C bonds of a variety of unsaturated nitro compounds in a two liquid phase system at 30°C. Nitrobenzene gives, under these conditions, a mixture of aniline and nitrocyclohexane.
