✦ Synopsis

A rotor accelerated croCkbeam system has been used to record the ffuorescence spectnzm of XeBr*, produced in the chemiluminescent reaction of Xe(3Pe,2) with Br+, and to monitor for the fmt time, its polarization as a function of reagent ener_q in the range. thermal G Et < 1.25 eV. The results establish (i) that the "primary** and "secondary" bands in the fluorescence speckurn are each associated with parallel polarization (ie. with AS2 = 0); (iii) that the degree of polarization of U prims" band rapidly increases with the collision ener=T, approaching a limiting vahre appropriate to spectator stripping dynamirr

A metastabie Ar beam was produced by electron impact with glow discharge. The A@P& beam intensity was estimated to be z I x 1 014 atoms sr-' s-'. Crossing this beam with a CF,H beam, collision-free emission of CF3 in the visible region was observed. The intensity maximum of the newly observed emiss
