Response to Drs. Kitsugi, Kokubo, Yamamuro, and

We can only agree that "it is difficult to measure Nakamuro:

the contact area between AW-GC and bone when the detaching test is used." A main purpose of our paper was to illustrate the advantages of confocal microscopy in assessing the contact in intact samples.

Dr. Kitsugi's response that we have distorted the facts of his articles is a little exaggerated. References 1 and 2 which he cites were not published when we completed this paper. This happened due to the long delay between its original construction and its final version.
