✦ Synopsis

Vibrationally resolved electronic spectra of small heteroclusters B.S, of benzene (B) and sulfur hexafluoride (S) have been obtained by resonant two-photon ionization spectroscopy. Some spectroscopic details of the BISl and B,S2 complexes were studied in the spectral regions near the So-&, 08 and 6: transitions of the benzene monomer. A nonvanishing 0: vibrational band has been observed for BIS, with a C,, equilibrium symmetry. For this cluster we have determined the ionization potential IP=9.180~0.005 eV as well as the binding energies of B,S, and BIS:. In view ofthe geometry ofthe complexes B&, (m= l-4) we found that until m= 3 the SF6 molecules are localized on one side of the benzene molecular plane, while for B& the symmetrical arrangement with two S2 groups on each side is favoured. The fragmentation of (B,S,) + clusters is restricted to the loss of S, molecules while emission of 8, molecules has not been observed.

The Rydberg states of the acetylene clusters ( C2H2)a and (C,H,), have been resolved by the technique of twophoton resonant ionization spectroscopy in the energy region of the monomer gerade Rydberg states. The stability of these cluster Rydberg states has been found to be vibrational mode dependent
