In vivo measurements of D-9 desaturation of myristic, palmitic, and stearic acid in lactating dairy cattle A method is described for assessing the activity of D-9 desaturase in vivo. A mixture of the three 1-13 C acids was infused into a cow over 24 hours or infused into the abomasums as a bolus ove

โฆ Synopsis
Regeneration of thermally polymerised frying oils with adsorbents
Thermally polymerised palm and cottonseed frying oils were treated with a range of adsorbents (charcoal, alumina, aluminium hydroxide, clay, celite, carbon, fry powder, britesorb, and magnesol) alone and in various mixtures by percolating hot oil (1508C) through a column of adsorbent over 15 minutes. The properties examined before and after this treatment were free acid, total polar material, anisidine value, conjugated diene, viscosity, and colour. Each adsorbent had some effect but better results were obtained with binary mixtures of adsorbent and the best results with a quaternary mixture of alumina, silica, magnesol, and clay. This treatment produced a marked reduction in all the parameters measured.
